The Fiji Police Force has achieved significant success in their ongoing battle against drug cultivation, recently uncovering over 31,000 marijuana plants during Operation Sasamaki in the Ono district of Kadavu Island. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu announced that investigators are diligently working to identify the owners of the farms tied to this substantial find.
Operation Sasamaki has resulted in a series of effective raids across numerous farms, with law enforcement officers maintaining high morale as they collaborate to disrupt drug networks. In an additional raid, a 19-year-old suspect was arrested after authorities discovered nearly 4,000 marijuana plants on a farm in the Tikina of Yale.
Tudravu emphasized that the police’s proactive strategies extend beyond Kadavu, with operations also targeting inter-island vessels in Suva, resulting in detections of illegal substances. Furthermore, arrests have taken place at snap roadblocks across the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Divisions for marijuana and other drug-related offenses.
The Commissioner has called for enhanced community support, underscoring that the law enforcement’s firm stance against drug cultivation and trafficking will require cooperation from the public.
