Anushil Kumar, the general manager of Team Fiji for the Pacific Mini Games, is set to represent his nation as an official at the upcoming event in Palau. Although he was unable to compete as an athlete, Kumar views this opportunity as a proud moment and a chance to give back to his country through sports. He expressed, “It has always been my dream to give back to the country in sports and this is just the best platform for me to do so.”

Kumar, who also serves as the general manager of operations for the Fiji Football Association, recently led the national delegation in presenting their traditional i-Tatau to the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, at a ceremony held at the FMF Gymnasium. He emphasized the importance of his new role, stating, “This time, once again I’m wearing a different hat. You have been seeing me wearing the football hat, but now it’s time to represent the country at a wider reach.”

His experience includes managing the national teams at various international competitions, including the last Mini Games in the Northern Marianas in 2022 and the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara. Team Fiji will compete in this year’s Mini Games, which are scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 9 in Koror, Palau, with a contingent of athletes and officials eager to showcase their skills and pride for Fiji.

The upcoming Mini Games embody not just a sporting event, but also an opportunity for unity and cultural representation among Pacific nations. This spirit of pride and commitment is reflected across the Fijian contingent as they prepare for this prestigious competition, buoyed by encouraging messages from their leaders and the support of their community.

In light of Kumar’s positive outlook and the collective efforts of the team, there is a hopeful anticipation of success for Fiji, reinforcing the nation’s dedication to excellence in sports.
