The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has placed Christopher Pryde, the reinstated Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), on an additional three weeks of annual leave while awaiting his response regarding allegations of abuse of office. In the interim, Nancy Tikoisuva, a senior prosecutor, has been appointed as the acting DPP, effective February 10, 2025.
In a statement, the JSC confirmed this decision, which came after the President of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, consulted with the Attorney General. They expressed confidence in Tikoisuva’s ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the DPP with dignity and integrity.
The JSC emphasized its commitment to the rule of law and accountability, asserting that it aims to ensure the continued functionality of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions while serving the people of Fiji with fairness and integrity. Once Pryde responds to the allegations, the JSC will reconvene to assess the situation further in accordance with the processes outlined in the 2013 Constitution.
This proactive approach by the JSC illustrates a dedication to maintaining judicial integrity and underscores the importance of accountability within public office. The appointment of Tikoisuva brings continuity to the DPP’s office during this critical period, fostering hope for a fair resolution of the ongoing situation.
