Notably, a significant 36% of these cases occurred within domestic settings, often involving a spouse or de-facto partner.
When looking at crimes against children, the statistics reveal that 49 of the victims were girls, while 52 were boys. Half of these cases were assault-related, 40% involved sexual offenses, and the remaining 10% pertained to other types of offenses.
The data highlights an urgent need for community awareness and preventive measures to protect vulnerable populations, especially in domestic contexts. The Fiji Police Force’s report could serve as a catalyst for discussions on safeguarding women and children, reaffirming the commitment of authorities and communities alike to enhance safety and support systems for those at risk.
This situation underscores the importance of ongoing education and advocacy about domestic violence and child safety, contributing to a more secure environment for everyone in Fiji.
