Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Fiji’s Heads of Mission to prioritize the nation’s interests in their respective postings abroad. During the opening session of Fiji’s Heads of Diplomatic Missions Meeting, he commended the Heads of Missions, establishing them as “loyal servants of Fiji.”
Rabuka emphasized the unique opportunity presented by Fiji’s longstanding participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations, which he believes can be leveraged further by High Commissioners and Ambassadors. He noted that Fiji is advocating for a “region of peace” intended to be adopted during the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
In addition, the Prime Minister expressed Fiji’s readiness to assist Vanuatu in recovery efforts following the recent devastation caused by a 7.3 magnitude earthquake. He plans to engage with individual representatives to discuss the specific challenges they encounter in their missions and mentioned that two overseas positions are still pending confirmation from the host nations.
The discussions at the meeting, which continues at Nasova, signify a commitment to strengthening Fiji’s diplomatic presence and readiness to contribute positively in the region. This collaborative effort emphasizes Fiji’s dedication not only to its own interests but also to regional stability and support.
In summary, the meeting underscores Fiji’s proactive stance in international diplomacy, reinforcing its historical role in peacekeeping and compassionate outreach, particularly in times of regional distress. It sends a hopeful message that Fiji is positioned to continue playing a significant role on the world stage, fostering peace and cooperation.
