Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Fiji’s Heads of Mission to prioritize the nation’s interests in their respective postings. During the opening of the Heads of Diplomatic Missions Meeting, Rabuka acknowledged these officials as dedicated “loyal servants of Fiji.”
He emphasized the importance of capitalizing on Fiji’s longstanding engagement in international peacekeeping, stating, “Fiji is the longest serving country in the United Nations serving peacekeeping duties.” This reinforces Fiji’s role as a committed advocate for peace in the region, with plans to promote a declaration for a region of peace at the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
Additionally, the Prime Minister expressed Fiji’s readiness to support Vanuatu in its recovery efforts following the recent 7.3 magnitude earthquake that caused significant damage. He also plans to meet with each representative individually to discuss the challenges they face and ensure that their needs are addressed. Currently, there are still two overseas posts awaiting confirmation from host nations, a matter Rabuka intends to explore further.
This meeting in Nasova underlines Fiji’s proactive engagement in international relations and its commitment to peace and support for its Pacific neighbors. As Fiji continues to play a vital role on the global stage, the government’s efforts to strengthen its diplomatic missions could enhance Fiji’s influence and ability to foster regional stability.
Overall, Rabuka’s focus on maintaining strong diplomatic relations and offering assistance where needed highlights a hopeful and positive outlook for Fiji’s role in both the Pacific and international community.
