Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Fiji’s Heads of Mission to prioritize the nation’s interests while serving in their respective countries. During the opening of the Heads of Diplomatic Missions Meeting, Rabuka commended these officials as dedicated servants of Fiji.
He emphasized the importance of leveraging Fiji’s long-standing commitment to peacekeeping, noting that Fiji is the longest-serving country in United Nations peacekeeping operations. This experience positions Fiji uniquely, as it champions a vision for a region of peace, which is expected to be endorsed at the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
Moreover, the Prime Minister expressed Fiji’s readiness to support Vanuatu in its recovery efforts following the recent devastation from a 7.3 magnitude earthquake. Rabuka plans to meet with representatives individually to better understand and address the challenges they face in their roles.
He also mentioned that two overseas posts are still awaiting confirmation by their respective host countries. The discussions and meetings are currently ongoing in Nasova.
This initiative by Prime Minister Rabuka underscores a commitment to strengthen Fiji’s diplomatic presence and effectiveness on the global stage, fostering regional cooperation and solidarity in times of crisis. The emphasis on peacekeeping and rebuilding efforts presents a hopeful narrative of unity and resilience for the Pacific region.
