The remittance sector has played a crucial role in enhancing the economy, according to Manoa Kamikamica, Minister for Trade, Cooperative, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. During the recent 15th anniversary celebrations of FEXCO Pacific in Nadi, Mr. Kamikamica highlighted that remittances have surged to $1.3 billion in 2023, marking a significant increase from 2019 and indicating strong economic growth.
He emphasized that the introduction of Starlink in Fiji, along with the forthcoming Google South Pacific Connect initiative, is set to revolutionize Fiji’s connectivity and establish it as a global digital hub.
“As we advance our digital capabilities, our dedication to cybersecurity must also strengthen,” he stated. He noted the development of a National Cybersecurity Strategy and the creation of a National CERT to protect Fiji’s digital environment.
Mr. Kamikamica pointed out that Fiji is quickly becoming a prime location for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), and ICT investments. With significant projects like Google’s Green data center, Fiji is poised to become a regional leader in ICT.
He urged stakeholders and investors to recognize Fiji as a promising destination for opportunities, growth, and collaboration.
