The remittance sector has played a crucial role in enhancing the economy, according to the Minister for Trade, Cooperative, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Manoa Kamikamica. During FEXCO Pacific’s 15th anniversary celebrations in Nadi, Mr. Kamikamica noted that remittances have surged to $1.3 billion in 2023, which marks a significant increase from 2019, contributing to robust economic growth.
He highlighted the influence of Starlink’s launch in Fiji and the impending Google South Pacific Connect initiative, which are expected to revolutionize the nation’s connectivity and establish Fiji as a global digital hub. “As we enhance our digital capabilities, our commitment to cybersecurity grows stronger,” he stated.
The Minister also mentioned the development of a National Cybersecurity Strategy and the formation of a National CERT aimed at protecting the digital landscape of the country. Furthermore, Fiji is quickly becoming a hotspot for Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO), Knowledge Processing Outsourcing (KPO), and ICT investments.
With initiatives such as Google’s Green data center, Fiji is poised to emerge as a regional leader in ICT. Mr. Kamikamica urged all stakeholders and investors to consider Fiji as a prime location for opportunities, growth, and collaboration.
