The Fiji Muslim League, in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank and the Serunai Commerce Organization, has launched its Digital Halal Ecosystem in Suva. This innovative initiative, part of the IsDB’s Reverse Linkage modality, aims to enhance Fiji’s Halal certification processes and align them with international standards through advanced digital technology.
Intan Ramly, Project Director for the Reverse Linkage Project, emphasized that the main objective of this initiative is to empower the Fiji Muslim League by equipping it with the necessary tools to integrate and implement digital modules for managing Halal certification.
Serunai Commerce expressed its commitment to not only providing technical solutions but also to empowering local institutions and building capacity. They aim to ensure that Fiji can competently manage and sustain this system in the long term, solidifying its position within the global Halal ecosystem.
Haji Basheer Ahmed, National President of the Fiji Muslim League, hailed the initiative as a significant advancement for the Fijian community. He noted that the collaboration with Serunai Commerce and IsDB marks a substantial leap forward by providing digital systems that will transform Halal compliance in Fiji, allowing local products to meet the highest global standards.
During the launch event, Acting Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Filimoni Vosarogo, reaffirmed the government’s support for the project, highlighting its importance not only for the Muslim community but for the entire economy. He remarked on Fiji’s cultural and faith diversity, noting the vast potential of the Halal industry to benefit all Fijians.
Once fully operational, the Digital Halal Ecosystem is expected to enable real-time Halal verification, enhance the integrity of the certification process, and improve traceability.
