The village of Saivou and its neighbors in Macuata have gained significant advancements in connectivity following the launch of the Northern fiber connectivity project in Savusavu, inaugurated by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. This initiative aims to eliminate the need for residents to travel long distances to connect with the outside world, thereby enhancing their communication capabilities.
In his address during the commissioning, PM Rabuka praised Telecom Fiji for their role in supporting and developing remote communities. He emphasized that the new fiber connectivity, which spans from Labasa to Savusavu, will provide high-speed internet services. This follows the successful completion of the Labasa to Seaqaqa fiber project last year, marking an important step in expanding digital tools available to the region.
Rabuka urged the villagers of Saivou to take full advantage of this connectivity for educational purposes and to bolster local businesses, which can lead to economic opportunities. The Prime Minister acknowledged the hard work of the staff involved in bringing this project to fruition and reinforced the importance of digital advancement to support communities in Vanua Levu.
The development aligns with ongoing efforts in Fiji to improve digital infrastructure, as highlighted by previous initiatives such as the arrival of subsea cables, which were mentioned in earlier reports. These cables are part of a broader strategy to integrate Fiji into the global digital economy, creating hope for enhanced economic growth and seamless connectivity for its citizens.
The Northern fiber connectivity project not only promises to improve communication in rural areas but also encourages local development and resilience, showcasing a dynamic shift towards a brighter future for Fiji’s digitally connected communities.
