Fiji’s Digital Revolution: A Game Changer for Economic Growth

The Minister for Trade, Cooperative, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Manoa Kamikamica, emphasized the significant role of the remittance sector in enhancing the economy. Speaking at the 15th anniversary celebrations of FEXCO Pacific in Nadi, he noted that remittances reached an impressive $1.3 billion in 2023, indicating a substantial increase from 2019 and reflecting a strong economic growth trend.

Mr. Kamikamica highlighted the potential effects of the Starlink launch and the forthcoming Google South Pacific Connect initiative, stating these developments would greatly improve connectivity in Fiji and help the nation emerge as a global digital hub.

He expressed a commitment to strengthening cybersecurity as digital capabilities are enhanced, mentioning plans for a National Cybersecurity Strategy and the creation of a National CERT to protect Fiji’s digital environment.

Additionally, Mr. Kamikamica pointed out that Fiji is becoming an attractive destination for Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO), Knowledge Processing Outsourcing (KPO), and ICT investments. He referenced exciting initiatives such as Google’s Green data center, positioning Fiji to become a leader in the regional ICT sector.

He concluded by encouraging stakeholders and investors to consider Fiji as a prime location for opportunities, growth, and collaboration.
