The Fiji Muslim League, in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank and Serunai Commerce Organization, has launched a Digital Halal Ecosystem in Suva. This initiative leverages advanced digital technology to enhance Fiji’s Halal certification processes and align them with international standards.
Intan Ramly, the Project Director for the Reverse Linkage Project, emphasized that the main objective is to boost the Fiji Muslim League’s capabilities by equipping it with tools necessary to integrate and implement digital management modules for Halal certification.
Serunai Commerce expressed its commitment to not just providing a technical solution, but also to empowering local institutions and enhancing their capacities. They aim to ensure that Fiji is prepared to manage and sustain this system effectively, thereby establishing its position in the global Halal ecosystem.
Haji Basheer Ahmed, the National President of the Fiji Muslim League, described the initiative as a significant advancement for the Fijian community. He highlighted that the partnership with Serunai Commerce and the Islamic Development Bank marks a transformative step, enabling Fijian products to meet high global consumer standards for Halal compliance.
During the launch event, Acting Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Filimoni Vosarogo, reaffirmed the government’s support for the project, underlining its importance not only for the Muslim community but also for the broader economy. He noted that the Halal industry has great potential to benefit all Fijians.
Once fully operational, the Digital Halal Ecosystem will enable real-time Halal verification, reinforce the integrity of the Halal certification process, and enhance traceability throughout the supply chain.
