Fiji’s Digital Halal Revolution: A Game Changer for Certification

The Fiji Muslim League, in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank and Serunai Commerce Organization, has unveiled its Digital Halal Ecosystem in Suva.

This initiative utilizes advanced digital technology and is part of the IsDB’s Reverse Linkage modality, aimed at enhancing Fiji’s Halal certification processes and aligning them with international standards.

Intan Ramly, the Project Director for the Reverse Linkage Project, emphasized that the main objective is to strengthen the capacity of the Fiji Muslim League (FML) by offering the necessary tools to implement and manage digital modules for Halal certification.

According to Serunai Commerce, their commitment extends beyond technical solutions; they are focused on empowering local institutions and ensuring that Fiji not only manages but also leads this system sustainably, thereby enhancing its position in the global Halal ecosystem.

Haji Basheer Ahmed, the National President of the Fiji Muslim League, remarked that this initiative marks a significant advancement for the Fijian community.

He stated, “This partnership with Serunai Commerce and IsDB signifies a remarkable progress for our nation. The capacity-building and digital infrastructure will transform Halal compliance in Fiji, ensuring that our products meet the highest global standards.”

Filimoni Vosarogo, the Acting Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, reaffirmed the government’s support for the project, highlighting its importance to both the Muslim community and the broader economy.

“The Fijian government is fully behind this project, recognizing its relevance not just for our Muslim community but for Fiji’s economy as a whole, given our status as a melting pot of cultures and faiths. The Halal industry presents significant opportunities for all Fijians.”

Once fully operational, the Digital Halal Ecosystem is expected to enable real-time Halal verification, enhance the integrity of the Halal certification process, and improve product traceability.
