Fiji’s Digital Future: A Game Changer for Inclusive Growth

The recently launched National Development Plan by the Fijian government aims to create an accessible digital future, emphasizing technology’s role in promoting inclusive sustainable growth. Key components of the plan include enhancing digital literacy in communities, upgrading infrastructure in schools, and forging partnerships with civil society and the private sector.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communication, Manoa Kamikamica, highlighted that the plan will significantly benefit vulnerable groups, especially women, by empowering them in the digital economy. He noted the revamping of the Centre project, which integrates digital technologies into previously unconnected classrooms and communities, as well as the DigitalAll Project, aimed at equipping women with the digital skills needed for thriving in today’s economy.

Kamikamica further stressed the importance of collaboration among government entities, businesses, civil society, and the broader community to ensure the success of these initiatives. This collaborative approach mirrors the goals outlined in the National Digital Strategy 2025-2030, which focuses on digital inclusion, innovation, and resilience throughout Fiji.

In a broader context, the National Digital Strategy is a significant extension of previous initiatives aiming to establish Fiji as a regional digital hub. Emphasizing this point, Kamikamica remarked that bringing diverse perspectives to the table enables better decision-making and innovation, which are essential for achieving improved outcomes in business and societal engagement.

Fiji’s commitment to providing digital access aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance educational systems through ICT, preparing citizens for participation in an increasingly digital economy. This proactive strategy not only promises economic empowerment but also nurtures a future where all Fijians can access opportunities driven by technological advancements.

Overall, the initiative brings a wave of hope for a digitally inclusive society in Fiji, suggesting a promising pathway for empowerment and growth across various sectors.
