The remittance sector has played a crucial role in enhancing the economy, according to Manoa Kamikamica, the Minister for Trade, Cooperative, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
During the 15th anniversary celebrations of FEXCO Pacific in Nadi, Kamikamica highlighted that remittances have surged to $1.3 billion in 2023, a significant increase from 2019, marking a healthy economic growth trajectory.
He noted that the introduction of Starlink in Fiji and the forthcoming Google South Pacific Connect initiative are set to revolutionize connectivity in the country, positioning Fiji as a significant global digital hub.
“As we enhance our digital capabilities, our commitment to cybersecurity intensifies,” he stated. “The creation of a National Cybersecurity Strategy and the formation of a National CERT will protect our digital environment.”
According to Kamikamica, Fiji is rapidly becoming a hotspot for Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO), Knowledge Processing Outsourcing (KPO), and ICT investments.
“With exciting projects like Google’s Green data center, Fiji is on track to become a regional powerhouse in ICT.”
He urged stakeholders and investors to recognize Fiji as a prime location for opportunities, growth, and collaboration.
