Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, addressed concerns regarding an isolated incident that occurred at the Warrick Resort. He reassured both local and international visitors that the situation is not indicative of broader safety issues in Fiji’s tourism sector.

Gavoka confirmed that all seven guests affected by the incident have been transferred to Aspen Lautoka Hospital for medical care, and investigations are underway to ascertain the cause. He emphasized that this incident is limited to the specific bar within the resort and reiterated that no further incidents have been reported either at the resort or throughout Fiji.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the long-standing reputation of the Warrick Resort, particularly among Australian visitors, and noted that the resort management is in distress over the wellbeing of their guests and is fully cooperating with the authorities. He mentioned that while speculation is not advisable at this stage, the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Police Force are working together in the investigation.

Gavoka concluded by assuring the public that Fiji remains a safe destination for tourism and that swift actions are being taken to understand and resolve this unfortunate incident.

In light of this situation, it’s important to acknowledge the strong support systems in place for tourists in Fiji. The rapid response from both resort management and local authorities reflects a commitment to maintaining the safety and wellbeing of guests. Despite this isolated event, the overall tourism climate in Fiji continues to be positive, reinforcing its reputation as a desirable travel destination.
