Fiji’s Defence Minister Embarks on Global Peacekeeping Mission

Fiji’s Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, has embarked on a 42-day overseas mission, traveling to the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. This trip aims to reinforce Fiji’s commitment to international peace and security and to honor the service of Fijian military personnel currently engaged in peacekeeping operations.

Tikoduadua’s itinerary prominently features visits to Fijian troops serving with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in the Golan Heights and the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization in Jerusalem and Tiberias. His journey will also encompass the Multinational Force and Observers Headquarters in Sharm-El-Sheikh and meetings in Rome with high-ranking officials, including the Director General of the Multinational Force and Observers.

A significant aspect of Tikoduadua’s travels includes participation in the 2025 Ministerial Peacekeeping Meeting in Berlin, where he will meet with leading figures from the United Nations and defense counterparts from multiple nations. In Washington, D.C., the minister plans to engage in discussions that focus on enhancing defense and security cooperation while also addressing support systems for Fiji’s veterans and necessary military reforms.

This mission exemplifies Fiji’s proactive approach to international peacekeeping and boosts the visibility of contributions made by Fijian forces to global stability. Tikoduadua’s planned return to Fiji on May 25 underscores the importance of his discussions with international partners, highlighting a commitment to enhancing the safety and well-being of Fijian military personnel serving abroad.

The ministry has previously assured the public of the safety and preparedness of Fijian soldiers in various peacekeeping roles, stressing the adherence to strict operational procedures. This dedication reflects not only a robust governance strategy but also a firm commitment to the overarching values of discipline, service, and courage exhibited by Fijian servicemen and women in conflict zones.

As Fiji continues to play a vital role in global peacekeeping efforts, there is optimism for strengthened international collaborations, ensuring that the contributions of its military personnel are recognized, supported, and celebrated in the pursuit of lasting peace.
