Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica announced that the government is currently reviewing Fiji’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model assessment. This statement was made during the opening of the two-day Fiji Tech Summit 2024, taking place at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Denarau.
Mr. Kamikamica explained that the review is being conducted in partnership with the Oceania Cyber Security Centre. He emphasized that this assessment will serve as the basis for an upcoming National Cybersecurity Strategy, which will set forth specific goals for the nation to enhance its cybersecurity and overall resilience.
He acknowledged the importance of discussing the latest cybersecurity trends and protective measures during the summit, commending the organizers for facilitating these crucial conversations in light of the changing landscape of cyber threats.
The Deputy Prime Minister reassured the public that the Fiji Government is taking cybersecurity seriously, mentioning ongoing initiatives like the establishment of the Fiji National Computer Emergency Response Team (Fiji CERT), which will focus on safeguarding the cybersecurity of its citizens.
The Fiji Tech Summit, hosted by DATEC Fiji, is set to conclude today.
