Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica announced that the government is currently reviewing Fiji’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model assessment. He made this statement while opening the Fiji Tech Summit 2024 at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Denarau.
Kamikamica explained that the review is being conducted in partnership with the Oceania Cyber Security Centre. He indicated that this assessment will lay the groundwork for the upcoming National Cybersecurity Strategy, which aims to set clear objectives for ensuring the nation is safe and resilient in cyberspace.
He acknowledged that various cybersecurity trends and protective measures for organizations will be thoroughly examined during the summit. Kamikamica praised the organizers for creating a platform for these critical discussions, particularly given the fast-changing landscape of cyber threats.
The Deputy Prime Minister assured that the Fiji Government is seriously addressing cybersecurity issues, mentioning various initiatives underway, including the establishment of the Fiji National Computer Emergency Response Team (Fiji CERT). This initiative, expected to be operational soon, will focus exclusively on enhancing the cybersecurity of Fiji’s citizens.
