Aziman Bibi, a chef-de-partie at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, has been honored with the Fiji Chef of the Year award at the National Salon Culinaire 2024. She expressed her gratitude by dedicating the award to her family and her team at the resort, acknowledging their unwavering support and commitment.

Originally from Kulukulu, Nadroga, Bibi completed her education at Kulukulu Public School and Cuvu College. In 2006, she received a multi-ethnic scholarship to pursue Cookery at Fiji National University, recognizing the potential in the culinary field. Starting her journey at Outrigger as a trainer, she progressed through the ranks from commis chef to demi chef, ultimately becoming a chef de partie.

“I am overwhelmed with this award,” stated Bibi, a mother of three with 16 years of experience in the culinary industry. “It’s a testament to the hard work put in by myself and my fellow chefs.”

In a notable debut, Frances Wakeham, 20, from Sheraton Denarau Villas, was awarded the Fiji Young Chef of the Year. Hailing from Savusavu, she attended Nasavusavu Public and Savusavu High School before enrolling in Fiji National University’s Level 4 Culinary program. Wakeham joined Sheraton Fiji after showcasing her skills in an FNU chef competition, where executive chef Rakesh Kumar recognized her talent.

“I was surprised as I did not dream about it,” expressed Wakeham, dedicating her award to her father, a chef at Savasi Island Resort who has since launched his own business.

Additionally, Muni Vikash Chetty of Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort earned the title of Fiji Pastry Chef of the Year 2024, marking his third victory in this category over the last decade while representing three different properties.

The three award winners will now prepare to compete in the Restaurant Challenge 2025 in Australia.
