Aziman Bibi, chef-de-partie at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, was honored with the Fiji Chef of the Year award during the National Salon Culinaire 2024. Bibi dedicated her achievement to her family and her colleagues at the resort, acknowledging their unwavering support and commitment.
Hailing from Kulukulu, Nadroga, Bibi’s culinary journey began with her education at Kulukulu Public School and Cuvu College. In 2006, she received a multi-ethnic scholarship to pursue Cookery at Fiji National University. Bibi expressed her enthusiasm for the culinary field, stating, “I saw the opportunity in the culinary business.” She started her career at Outrigger as a trainer and progressed through roles from commis chef to demi chef, ultimately becoming a chef de partie.
“I am overwhelmed with this award,” Bibi remarked, adding, “I dedicate this award to my family and fellow chefs. There has been a lot of hard work.” A mother of three, she has dedicated the past 16 years to the culinary industry.
In other awards, Frances Wakeham, a 20-year-old from Sheraton Denarau Villas, received the Fiji Young Chef of the Year award. Originally from Savusavu, she completed her education at Nasavusavu Public School and Savusavu High School before enrolling in the Culinary program at Fiji National University. Wakeham joined Sheraton Fiji after competing in a culinary competition and securing a position with executive chef Rakesh Kumar. “I was surprised as I did not dream about it,” she said, dedicating her award to her father, who is also a chef and now runs his own business.
Additionally, Muni Vikash Chetty from Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort claimed the Fiji Pastry Chef of the Year 2024 award, marking the third time he has received this recognition. Chetty has represented three different properties over the last decade.
All three winners will go on to compete at the Restaurant Challenge 2025 in Australia.
