Fiji’s Cricket Team Sets Sails for World Cup Aspirations!

Cricket Fiji’s initiatives to revitalize and promote the sport have garnered praise from President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, as cricket continues to gain traction in the country.

This morning, the 14-member Fiji Cricket team presented their iTatau at the State House in preparation for their journey to the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 qualification in Samoa.

“It is truly a pleasure to witness the resurgence of a sport with deep historical significance in our nation that continues to flourish,” President Katonivere remarked to the team.

“Just a few days ago, I had the honor of sending off a group of young women headed to Colombia for the Under-20 Women’s Soccer World Cup. It is equally a privilege to send off this young men’s team as they aim for qualification for the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 in Samoa,” he added.

The President highlighted the significance of young Fijians representing their nation on an international platform, noting that Fiji is poised to emerge as a formidable force in various sports, with young athletes making an impact globally.

He urged the team to act as “exemplary ambassadors of cricket and, more importantly, of our nation as you represent Fiji in Samoa.”

The Fiji Men’s Cricket team is set to leave for Samoa on Thursday, August 19.
