Fiji’s Cricket Team Poised for Glory: A Presidential Send-Off!

Cricket Fiji’s initiatives to rejuvenate and expand the sport have received acknowledgment from President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, as cricket continues to gain traction in Fiji.

This morning, the 14-member Fiji Cricket team presented their iTatau at the State House in preparation for their qualification journey for the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 in Samoa.

“It is truly a pleasure to witness the revitalization of a sport that has significant roots in our nation’s history and continues to flourish today,” said President Katonivere.

“Just a few days ago, I welcomed a group of young women heading to Colombia for the Under-20 Women’s Soccer World Cup. Thus, it is an honor to send off a group of young men who are set to compete in the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 qualification in Samoa,” he added.

The President highlighted the importance of young Fijians representing their country on the global stage, noting that Fiji is on the brink of emerging as a powerful force in various sports, with youth making significant impacts worldwide.

He urged the team to act as “exemplary ambassadors of cricket and, above all, of our nation as you represent Fiji in Samoa.”

The Fiji Men’s Cricket team is set to depart for Samoa on Thursday, August 19.
