A men’s national cricket squad will soon be formed, with selections taking place following the conclusion of the 2025 National Eastern Cricket Tournament in Suva. Cricket Fiji’s CEO Sitiveni Rokoro confirmed that this 13-member team will be prepared for an international tournament set for August. Rokoro emphasized the tournament’s role as a vital talent identification platform, enabling the selection of players for national duties.
Rokoro noted, “At the end of this tournament tomorrow we will be selecting a 13-member squad to select from for a tournament in August, where we will select another squad for the November tour.” This indicates a structured approach towards building a competitive team for upcoming events.
As the tournament unfolds, Moce is currently battling the Suva Warriors in the first semi-final, while Kabara faces off against Nadi in the second semi-final. The excitement is building, with the final match scheduled for 11 AM tomorrow.
This reflects Cricket Fiji’s ongoing efforts to foster talent and enthusiasm for the sport, aligning with previous tournaments in Fiji that have seen increased participation and new teams entering the competitive landscape. The revival of interest and focus on youth engagement in cricket present a bright future, as these grassroots initiatives are essential for sustaining the sport’s growth in Fiji. As the tournament concludes, it heralds the beginning of a new chapter for Fiji’s cricket, filled with potential and promise for its athletes.
