Fiji achieved its first win in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional A Pacific tournament in Samoa on Tuesday, showcasing a remarkable comeback after having lost two initial matches. The national cricket team secured a decisive 104-run victory over the previously unbeaten Cook Islands.
This victory not only elevated Fiji’s spirits but also heightened the competition as teams vie for the top rank. Apete Sokovagone was the standout player of the match, scoring 62 runs off 37 balls, earning him the Man of the Match accolade. Captain Peni Vuniwaqa contributed significantly as well, adding 30 runs off 15 balls to help set a formidable total.
Seventeen-year-old Joeli Moala demonstrated his potential with an impressive bowling display, taking two wickets for just nine runs. Despite their earlier losses to Samoa and Vanuatu, Fiji’s latest triumph has revived their hopes for success in the ongoing tournament. They had lost their first two matches, being defeated by nine wickets by Samoa and falling short by 36 runs against Vanuatu.
