Police morale is reportedly high following the successful seizure of over 31,000 marijuana plants in Kadavu during Operation Sasamaki. This significant operation, which took place in the district of Ono, adds to the series of effective police efforts aimed at disrupting illegal drug cultivation across Fiji.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu shared that investigators are closely pursuing leads to identify the owners of the marijuana farms involved. Additionally, the operation resulted in other notable arrests, including a 19-year-old who was apprehended with nearly 4,000 plants on a farm in the tikina of Yale. Police efforts have also extended to inter-island vessels in Suva, where searches conducted with the assistance of K9 officers led to more confiscations and arrests, particularly of unattended bags containing illicit substances.
Commissioner Tudravu highlighted the strong unity among officers participating in these efforts, reflecting their commitment to combat drug-related issues for the benefit of future generations. He addressed criticisms regarding the ongoing operations, asserting, “We will not stop… as long as it’s illegal.” Furthermore, he emphasized the crucial role of community support in these initiatives, which aims to maintain momentum against illegal drugs.
