The Fiji Police Force has intensified its efforts against drug cultivation, with a recent operation leading to the destruction of over a thousand marijuana plants in Kadavu. The initiative is part of a broader campaign to combat the illicit drug trade, and teams of around 30 officers are actively engaged in ongoing operations deep in the jungle, including camping on-site for extended periods.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aporosa Lutunauga, noted that multiple raids were conducted last week, resulting in significant seizures of marijuana plants. Additionally, a separate team is focusing on operations in the Northern Division, targeting known drug-producing areas to ensure a comprehensive approach to tackling this pressing issue.

This announcement builds on the success of Operation Sasamaki, which uncovered over 31,000 marijuana plants in the Ono district earlier this year, highlighting a sustained commitment by law enforcement to eradicate illegal drug cultivation. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu emphasized the importance of community support in these efforts, reinforcing that a zero-tolerance stance on drug cultivation and trafficking is essential for the safety and well-being of Fijian communities.

The Fiji Police Force’s proactive approach not only aims to disrupt drug networks but also fosters a sense of hope for a future with healthier environments. The collaboration between law enforcement and community members is vital, signifying collective responsibility in combating drug-related issues.

With these sustained efforts, it is anticipated that Fiji can look forward to a continued decline in drug cultivation and trafficking, paving the way for safer communities.
