Fiji’s Court Sees Double Trouble: Two Charged with Financial Deception

Two men are scheduled to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today after being charged by the Fiji Police Mpaisa Task Force for unrelated cases of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.

In the first case, a 36-year-old man from Wailea, Vatuwaqa, is accused of obtaining $447 from a victim on May 21, 2023. The suspect allegedly misled the victim by claiming he had sent the One Time Pin (OTP) in error and requested the details again. After receiving the OTP, he is said to have transferred the amount for his own benefit.

In a separate incident, another 36-year-old man from Koronivia is alleged to have dishonestly acquired $190 from a victim on November 17, 2023. The investigation revealed that the victim responded to a Facebook post regarding a car for hire and sent the deposit to the listed number. The accused is claimed to have used the funds without providing the promised service.

Both individuals are set to be brought before the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
