Fiji’s Corruption Commission Exonerates Ex-Attorney General Amid Ongoing Reforms

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has announced that it will not pursue legal action against former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum concerning allegations of violating Section 24 (5) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding, and Disclosures) Act 2013. Investigations conducted by FICAC found insufficient evidence to substantiate the claims against Sayed-Khaiyum.

Additionally, FICAC informed the Fijian Elections Office on July 24, 2024, of its decision to close the case related to these allegations. The commission has also made recommendations to the Fijian Elections Office aimed at revising and enhancing regulations to prevent similar issues in the future and to improve the clarity and effectiveness of the investigation process.
