The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has recently clarified the early release programs available under the Corrections Act and Regulations, specifically highlighting the Community Work and Weekend Release initiatives. These programs are designed to aid the gradual reintegration of qualified inmates back into society, all while maintaining strict assessment and control measures.

According to the FCS, the application procedure for early release is robust, ensuring that only those individuals who genuinely deserve this opportunity are selected. Inmates interested in applying must formally submit their request, prompting the Officer-in-Charge at their correctional facility to gather supporting documentation. This documentation includes family support statements, character references, and other pertinent reports, which collectively provide a detailed evaluation of the inmate’s readiness for reintegration.

Upon gathering all required documents, the application is forwarded to FCS Headquarters. There, a specialized board meticulously reviews and deliberates on each case, taking into account numerous factors such as the inmate’s behavior, progress in rehabilitation, and available community support systems.

This structured approach underscores the FCS’s commitment to ensuring that early release programs contribute positively to both inmates and the broader society, fostering an environment that encourages rehabilitation and community involvement.
