The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has introduced a new Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy designed to enhance the professionalism and integrity of its officers and staff. The policy emphasizes the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and behaviors that reflect positively on the organization.
This policy aims to establish clear guidelines regarding conduct in marital and committed relationships, with a focus on preventing extramarital affairs that could harm the public image of the FCS. It also outlines expectations for professional behavior both inside and outside the workplace, highlighting the trust placed in FCS officers by the public.
FCS Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa emphasized that this initiative demonstrates the service’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and maintaining public confidence. “Integrity in personal relationships is not just a private concern for FCS staff; it significantly influences public perception of the service,” said Commissioner Nakarawa. He further stated that the policy sets clear expectations for officers to exhibit ethical behavior in both their personal and professional lives.
Currently, the policy is undergoing review and will include consultations before being formally adopted. Once in effect, violations of the policy could lead to disciplinary measures ranging from counseling and reprimands to suspension or termination, depending on the severity of the infraction.
Moreover, the policy will offer support resources, such as counseling services, for employees facing personal difficulties. This inclusion underscores the FCS’s commitment to employee welfare while reinforcing high standards of conduct.
The Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy will be applicable to all FCS employees, addressing several key areas including relationship integrity, professional behavior at work, and the importance of maintaining a favorable public image.
