Fiji’s Corrections Service Reinforces Integrity with New Policy

The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has introduced a new Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy designed to enhance the professionalism and integrity of its personnel. This policy emphasizes the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and behaviors that positively reflect the organization.

The new guidelines include specific expectations regarding conduct in marital and committed relationships, particularly aiming to prevent extramarital affairs that could harm the FCS’s reputation. It also establishes standards for professional behavior both on and off the job, recognizing that FCS officers are entrusted with a significant public responsibility.

FCS Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa remarked that this initiative demonstrates the service’s dedication to promoting professionalism, integrity, and public trust. He stated, “Integrity in personal relationships is not just a private concern for FCS staff; it has a direct impact on how the public perceives our service.”

The policy is currently undergoing a review process and will be subject to consultations prior to its official implementation. Once enacted, violations could lead to disciplinary actions, ranging from counseling and reprimands to suspension or termination, depending on the seriousness of the infraction.

Furthermore, the policy will include support systems, such as counseling services, for employees dealing with personal difficulties, underscoring the FCS’s commitment to staff well-being while upholding exemplary conduct standards.

The Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy will be applicable to all FCS employees and will focus on critical aspects such as relationship integrity, professional conduct in the workplace, and nurturing a positive image in the community.
