Fiji’s Corrections Service Raises the Bar on Integrity with New Policy

The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has introduced a new Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy designed to enhance the professional conduct and integrity of its personnel. This policy emphasizes the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and behaviors that preserve the organization’s reputation.

The new guidelines will focus on conduct in marital and committed relationships, particularly aimed at preventing extramarital affairs that could harm the FCS’s public image. It also outlines expectations for professional behavior, both in and out of the workplace, highlighting that FCS officers are expected to uphold a high level of public trust.

FCS Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa expressed that this initiative demonstrates the service’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and public trust. He remarked, “Integrity in personal relationships is not merely a private matter for FCS staff; it directly affects public perception of the service.” He added that the policy sets forth clear expectations for officers to exhibit ethical behavior in both personal and professional spheres.

Currently, the policy is under review and will proceed through a consultation process before its official adoption. Once enacted, violations of the policy may result in disciplinary measures ranging from counseling and reprimands to suspension or dismissal, depending on the seriousness of the infraction.

Moreover, the policy will include support mechanisms, such as counseling services, for employees who may be facing personal difficulties, underscoring the FCS’s commitment to employee welfare while promoting the highest conduct standards.

This Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy will be applicable to all employees of the FCS, addressing key areas such as relationship integrity, professional behavior in the workplace, and the maintenance of a positive public image.
