Fiji’s government is set to examine alterations to the 2013 Constitution, with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirming that a bill will be presented during the parliamentary session commencing today. During a recent address to Fijians in the United States, Prime Minister Rabuka highlighted that the current legislative agenda focuses on reforming the Constitution to better align with the evolving aspirations of the Fijian people. “In the second week of March, we will table a bill in parliament to review some chapters in the 2013 Constitution,” he stated. The requirement for a 75% majority was notably eased with the recent support from nine members of the FijiFirst party, boosting confidence that the proposed amendments could secure the necessary votes.
The Cabinet’s approval also includes the formation of a Constitution Review Commission (CRC), which will actively involve the populace in discussions regarding potential amendments.
