Fiji’s Coalition Confidence: Rabuka Responds to Cabinet Changes

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, leader of the People’s Alliance, has reaffirmed his strong support from coalition partners, the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) and the National Federation Party (NFP). His assurances follow the recent swearing-in of three new Ministers and three new Assistant Ministers, which were confirmed to have received prior approval from both coalition parties, highlighting the ongoing collaboration within the alliance.

Rabuka expressed confidence in the coalition’s unity during a media briefing, a sentiment echoed by SODELPA’s General Secretary, Viliame Takayawa, who affirmed the coalition remains strong and intact, though he refrained from providing further commentary. The NFP has also reinforced its commitment to the coalition government, emphasizing the importance of teamwork among the parties as they tackle long-term challenges facing Fiji.

The backdrop of these affirmations includes public statements of support from key cabinet members, including Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica. Their unified front bodes well for the coalition’s strength and dedication to addressing significant national issues.

Looking ahead, Prime Minister Rabuka is scheduled to visit New Zealand for discussions with their Prime Minister and to partake in Fiji Day celebrations. He will also join the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa. These engagements reflect the coalition’s commitment to fostering a prosperous future for all Fijians, particularly the youth.

In summary, the coalition’s resilience is notable, with leaders expressing confidence in their collaborative efforts. This proactive approach towards governance provides a hopeful outlook for the future as they strive to meet the needs of the Fijian people while addressing critical national matters. The continued unity and solidarity within the coalition are vital as they navigate these pivotal times.
