The ninth annual Frank Hilton Amazing Wheelbarrow Race, also known as the Bara Battle, was a vibrant event held with a participation of 24 spirited teams on Constitution Avenue and other significant roads in Suva. Among these enthusiastic participants was the HFC Bank team, who showcased their commitment to community and philanthropy by joining this unique relay race. The team members, including Neimia Tuilawaki, Adelene Peter, Vilimaina Vasukicakau, and Makereta Silimaca, demonstrated their enthusiasm by participating in a race where one team member sat in a decorated wheelbarrow, pushed along by others.

Adelene Peter, the communications and brand specialist for HFC Bank, expressed pride in the team’s participation. Despite being a small group, they felt a great sense of accomplishment to be part of the event, which aligns with the bank’s values of supporting charitable causes, particularly those that benefit children’s education and development.

The event is not just about friendly competition but also serves as a significant fundraising effort aimed at supporting children with disabilities in Fiji. Initiated by the Frank Hilton Organization in 2016, the race has evolved from a simple charitable initiative into a major community event, raising over a million dollars to touch many lives and create opportunities for children in need.

This year’s event witnessed diverse corporate entities, including HFC Bank, competing in themed costumes, with wheelbarrows designed to represent each team creatively. Notably, HFC Bank’s wheelbarrow featured its distinctive purple color and embellishments, accompanied by a toy shark mascot. The bank’s participation is part of their broader commitment to fostering inclusivity and supporting community-driven causes.

Ritesh Dass, President of the Frank Hilton Organization, emphasized the importance of community spirit, unity, and the joy of giving that the event encapsulates. Over the years, the organization has transformed this wheelbarrow race into a cherished tradition in Fiji, promoting teamwork and raising awareness for children with disabilities.

This year’s race concluded with Fortech Construction Pte Ltd taking home the winner’s shield, a testament to their dedication and strategy. However, the event underscored that all participants are winners in the shared mission of enhancing the lives of children in Fiji through collective action and compassion.

Such events highlight the significant impact that community involvement and corporate support can have on societal challenges. Through this race, participants reinforce the message of hope, inclusivity, and positive change. It serves as a reminder of the profound effects of unity and shared goals, proving that collective efforts can create ripples of change within the community, ultimately contributing to a more supportive and enriching environment for children with disabilities.
