Fiji’s Captain Drops Out of Key Opener – What’s Next?

Digicel Fiji Football team captain Roy Krishna will not participate in the opening match of the FIFA International “A” Friendlies Tri-Nations Series against Solomon Islands next week. The match is set for September 2 at 7 PM at the HFC Bank Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva.

After this match, Solomon Islands will take on Hong Kong-China on September 5 at the same venue, while Fiji’s final match is scheduled for September 8 at 3 PM at Churchill Park in Lautoka against Hong Kong-China.

Team manager Kartik Reddy stated that the squad is currently in its second week of preparation under the direction of head coach Rob Sherman. The team includes 26 players, with the recent addition of Samuela Kautoga from New Zealand-based Rewa. The focus during this time is on strengthening, conditioning, tactical, and technical training through two sessions each day.

Reddy mentioned that the final squad would be announced this week prior to the team’s relocation to Suva. “Four players will be left out of the squad, a decision that will be made by the coach this week,” Reddy noted. He confirmed that while captain Roy Krishna will be absent for the match against Solomon Islands, he is expected to rejoin the team for the game against Hong Kong-China.
