The Fijian Cabinet has officially given the green light for the creation of a Drug Rehabilitation Centre within the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS). This decision was made during the first cabinet meeting of the year held in Suva.

The newly established Centre aims to provide targeted interventions for individuals convicted of drug offenses, focusing on their rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society. The drug rehabilitation programs offered will adhere to the standards set by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, ensuring a professional and effective approach to treatment.

This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the need for restorative justice, emphasizing rehabilitation over incarceration. By offering support and resources for recovery, the Drug Rehabilitation Centre represents a progressive step toward reducing recidivism and improving public safety.

The establishment of such a facility is hopeful news, signaling a commitment by the government to address drug-related issues comprehensively and compassionately. It has the potential to transform lives, providing individuals with the tools they need to overcome addiction and build a brighter future.
