The Fijian Cabinet has decided to revise the 2002 Passport Act, allowing for the issuance of Official Passports to certain senior officials, which will be valid solely for official functions and only during their appointments. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who shared this development, explained that the Official Passport is one of four passport categories provided by the Fiji Immigration Department, primarily intended for disciplined forces engaged in peacekeeping missions.
In addition to the Official Passport, the existing passport categories include the Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport, and Emergency Passport. The Prime Minister noted that the proposed amendments to the Passport Act will be presented to the Cabinet for further evaluation.
This initiative to amend the Passport Act not only signals a commitment to better streamline administrative processes for public officials but also emphasizes Fiji’s dedication to international peacekeeping efforts. It reflects a progressive approach in supporting those who serve in important roles, enhancing their operational efficiency while representing the nation abroad.
The anticipated modifications could contribute positively to official travel arrangements for senior figures, perhaps fostering more effective governance and international relations.
