The Fijian Cabinet has approved the recommendations from the iTaukei Administration Review Report, which focused on enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of services provided to the iTaukei community. This review, conducted from April to July 2024, aimed to improve both the economic and social well-being of the iTaukei people.
The review process involved extensive engagement with various stakeholders, including government entities, private sector representatives, and civil society organizations. Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, expressed gratitude for the diligent efforts of the consultancy teams led by Dr. Jone Baledrokadroka and Dr. Jone Lako, who facilitated these consultations. He confirmed that the recommendations will be forwarded to the Great Council of Chiefs, the iTaukei Affairs Board, and the Cabinet for their consideration.
Additionally, the report served as a crucial step towards fostering sustainable development and resilience within the iTaukei community. The iTaukei Administration encompasses several key entities, including the Great Council of Chiefs, iTaukei Affairs Board, Provincial Council, Tikina Council, and Village Council, which all play a role in supporting the overarching goals of better governance and economic development for the iTaukei people.
