Fijian passengers will soon have more control over their bus transactions through a new app that enables real-time tracking of bus card payments. This initiative, announced by Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, aims to enhance convenience and transparency in public transport, addressing previous concerns raised by commuters regarding their payment methods.
Kamikamica highlighted that the app’s ability to provide immediate access to payment details will foster trust in the system, making passengers feel more confident and informed during their travels. He stated, “A superior system is coming to the country, and the beauty of this system is that it’s not only going to cover buses, but also taxis, minivans, and shipping.”
Previously, there had been challenges with the electronic ticketing system managed by Vodafone, which was hastily developed. Now, with ample time for a thorough tender process, a significantly improved system is on the verge of being implemented. The new payment gateway is not only designed to enhance user experience but is also poised to be environmentally friendly by eliminating the need for physical receipts.
Moreover, this development aligns with Fiji’s broader strategy to modernize its public transportation and improve operational efficiency.
