Fiji Bulikula captain Talei Holmes expressed that the players have built a strong bond during their brief time together.
“We have forged a connection off the field through devotions and team meetings, which is crucial,” she stated. “The Cook Islands team showcases significant strength in the middle, especially with Kiana Takairangi at full-back, who is a considerable threat around the ruck.”
Holmes emphasized the need for improved ruck control and solid defense. “Having represented the country twice before, being captain this year is a meaningful milestone for me, one I didn’t expect to come this early,” she said. “I am thrilled and eager to lead the girls.”
Holmes also remarked on her excitement to participate in the Pacific Championship campaign, marking her first visit to the country. “It is incredibly meaningful to witness the younger generation emerging. It’s inspiring, and I can’t wait to play in front of them.”
She noted that the team is serious about their goal of qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup for the first time. “Qualifying would mean everything to the country,” Holmes added. “We are ensuring that we are well-prepared for Saturday’s match.”
Recently, Holmes was part of the Cronulla Sharks team, which fell to the Sydney Roosters with a score of 32-28 in the NRLW grand final.
