Fiji’s national football striker Roy Krishna, who is the leading goal scorer in Oceania, is confirmed to be part of the team as they prepare for the Oceania Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next month. Krishna, who has been representing Fiji for 16 years, is also the country’s most-capped player.
Fiji Football CEO Mohammed Yusuf provided updates on the team’s preparations, highlighting their recent performance in the Tri-Nations series against Solomon Islands and Hong Kong China, where Fiji achieved a victory over the Solomon Islands and a draw with Hong Kong.
The national team, known as the Bula Boys, is scheduled to depart for Papua New Guinea on November 9 for two matches. Krishna will join the team on October 6 and is expected to play a match on October 10 before briefly returning to India on October 12. At 37 years old, he continues to play for Odisha in the Indian Super League.
Yusuf mentioned that experienced players like Samuela Kautoga, Setareki Hughes, Akuila Mateisuva, and Krishna are integrating well with the younger members of the squad. Coach Rob Sherman and the management are focused on creating a game plan for their upcoming match against the Solomon Islands.
Yusuf expressed confidence in the team’s performance, stating that every team has a fair chance and that they are well-prepared. The fixtures for the World Cup Qualifiers include Fiji facing the Solomon Islands on October 10 at HFC Bank Stadium, followed by matches against Papua New Guinea on November 14 and New Caledonia on November 17, both at PNG Football Stadium.
