Fiji’s Bula Boys Boost Defense Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Two defenders based in London have been included in the 29-member extended squad of the Bula Boys for the upcoming matches in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Oceania Qualifiers. Stafford Rangers’ Scott Wara and Charlton Athletic’s Josh Qereqeretabua, both of whom have played for the national team in age-group World Cups, are set to strengthen the team’s defense.

Additionally, the squad features other overseas players such as Captain Roy Krishna, Nabil Begg from Auckland, Wellington’s Mohammed Raheem, Sydney-based goalkeeper Jerome Narayan, and midfielder Leroy Jennings from Sydney United.

Fiji began its qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over the Solomon Islands in Suva on October 10, secured by a goal from Roy Krishna. The team is scheduled to travel to Papua New Guinea next month to compete against the host nation and New Caledonia in the remaining matches of Group A.

In the meantime, New Caledonia achieved a 3-1 win against Papua New Guinea in their opening match in Suva.

Under the guidance of coach Rob Sherman, the Bula Boys will commence their training camp on Sunday, October 29, at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba.

The Fiji squad includes: Joela Biuvanua, Simione Tamanisau, Jerome Narayan, Akuila Mateisuva, Filipe Baravilala, Sekove Naivakananumi, Samuela Kautoga, Scott Wara, Sterling Vasconcellos, Antonio Tuivuna, Gabriele Matanisiga, Josh Laqeretabua, Ivan Kumar, Kavaia Rawaqa, Setareki Hughes, Merrill Nand, Rahul Krishna, Sitiveni Cavuilagi, Mohammed Raheem, Tevita Waranaivalu, Dave Radrigai, Leroy Jennings, Aporosa Yada, Nabil Begg, Thomas Dunn, Roy Krishna, Sairusi Nalaubu, Etonia Dogalau, and Christopher Wasasala.
