The Ministry of Youth and Sports in Fiji has been allocated a budget of $23.4 million for the financial year 2025-2026, maintaining the same funding level as the previous year. This budget is part of the national initiative to enhance the country’s sports infrastructure and programs, demonstrating the government’s commitment to sports development.

Key allocations within this budget include $5.38 million earmarked for overseas sporting tours, highlighting the government’s dedication to giving athletes international exposure. Additionally, $3.9 million will be used for hosting international tournaments, and $1.9 million is allocated for the engagement of sports coaches, reflecting a strategic approach aimed at improving the quality of sports and training in Fiji.

The budget also supports infrastructure improvements, with $1.4 million set aside for upgrading sports facilities and $978,216 designated for the construction of hard courts. Moreover, the Fiji National Sports Commission will receive $1.08 million, while the Fiji Sports Council will be allocated $670,000. Community-oriented programs are also prioritized, with $195,652 allocated each for both Sports Grants for Persons with Disabilities and the Community Sports Association, reinforcing an inclusive approach to sports.

Minister of Finance Biman Prasad conveyed during his budget speech that the allocation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports is sufficient, with provisions for additional funding if necessary throughout the year. This long-term commitment presents a hopeful outlook for the sporting community in Fiji, as it aims to build a more robust infrastructure and nurture talent at all levels.

The continuous investment in sports and youth development highlights Fiji’s aspiration to foster a vibrant sporting culture, which not only prepares athletes for international competitions but also promotes community spirit and unity. The government’s support is a step toward enhancing the country’s competitive stance in global sports, as seen in the context of rising participation in events like the Pacific Mini Games.

With these initiatives, Fiji stands on a promising path to further strengthen its sports programs and empower its youth, underlining that continued investment can yield positive outcomes for the future of sports in the nation.
