Aminiasi Saratibau has brought home Fiji’s second gold medal from the International Golden Gloves tournament held in Queensland, Australia. Competing in the elite 80kg division, Saratibau’s victory adds to the success of the Fijian boxing team, who had already secured their first gold earlier in the week through Anaseini Naikanivatu, the lone female competitor representing Fiji.

The team of nine boxers, led by national head coach Cameron Todd, traveled to Queensland for the five-day tournament, which concluded today. All participants made it to the quarter-finals, showcasing remarkable talent and determination. While five of them advanced to the finals, three boxers—Semi Koroitukana, Sakiusa Narara, and Norman Amram—managed to clinch silver medals.

Coach Todd expressed pride in the athletes’ performances, particularly highlighting the achievement of young talent Semi Koroi, who succeeded in his first year at the elite level, competing strongly over four days. He conveyed his optimism regarding the athletes’ potential and emphasized the positive trajectory of Fiji’s boxing scene.

This tournament serves as a crucial platform for these young boxers, providing them with valuable international experience and recognition. Such achievements not only reflect individual prowess but also signify the ongoing support and development of boxing in Fiji under Todd’s guidance. The success of the team at the Golden Gloves fosters hope for the future of boxing in the nation, inspiring both current athletes and the next generation of boxers to aim high on international stages.

As the country’s boxing community continues its growth and improvement, there is a collective enthusiasm that such events will only propel Fiji’s representation in the sport to greater heights.
