Aminiasi Saratibau, an emerging talent in Fiji’s boxing realm, has received an unexpected honor by being nominated for the 2024 Fiji Sports Man of the Year award. At just 25 years old and only two years into his boxing career, Saratibau has made significant strides, including securing a bronze medal at the 2023 Pacific Games and competing in last year’s Paris Olympics Qualifiers in Thailand.
Saratibau expressed his surprise and gratitude regarding the nomination, reflecting on the early recognition he has received. “I didn’t think they would have nominated me because I was just a beginning. I feel really blessed and grateful for knowing they believe in me,” he remarked.
To further hone his skills, Saratibau is preparing to join the Fiji Amateur Boxing squad for a tour of the United States, under the leadership of head coach Cam Todd. The 2024 Fiji Sports Awards will occur tomorrow night at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, where Saratibau aims to symbolize the burgeoning talent in Fijian boxing.
This nomination underscores a broader acknowledgment of the advancements in Fiji’s boxing scene, especially under Coach Cam Todd’s dedication, who has been instrumental in nurturing young boxers and elevating the sport’s visibility. Todd has organized several international competitions, fostering participation across genders and illustrating the country’s commitment to enhancing its boxing program.
The upcoming Fiji Sports Awards not only celebrate individual talents like Saratibau but also serve to motivate future generations to chase their athletic ambitions. With promising young boxers like Saratibau leading the way, the future for Fiji’s boxing looks hopeful and full of promise.
