The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji has taken significant strides towards enhancing road safety through rigorous enforcement measures. In a notable move, the LTA canceled 150 driver licenses last year as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting responsible driving. Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized that around 2,500 show cause proceedings took place in 2024, resulting in 2,350 drivers being issued final warnings.
This commitment to road safety has continued into the new year, with 11 driver’s licenses already canceled and suspended within the first two months of 2025. The LTA is also investing in portable speed cameras to bolster compliance with road safety regulations, highlighting the authority’s proactive approach.
Rokosawa pointed out that these stringent measures aim to instill good driving habits among all drivers. The LTA’s efforts are not limited to penalties; they include educational initiatives, with nearly 800 show cause proceedings conducted across its 25 branches. This dual approach underscores a commitment to not only penalize offenders but also to educate drivers on the importance of safety on the roads.
