Fiji will take part in the inaugural Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children in Bogotá, Colombia, this month. The country’s delegation will be led by the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, along with her Child Advisor, Ms. Natalie Siegel-Brown, and Ms. Arieta Tagivetaua, the Director of Children.
During the conference, Minister Tabuya is set to emphasize the Fijian government’s dedication to combatting violence against children. She plans to introduce the concept of “care blogs,” similar to the ones utilized in Colombia, which serve as supportive spaces for caregivers and the working population to recharge amid their daily challenges.
Tabuya points out that Bogotá, with its population of over 4 million, successfully uses care blogs to create safe environments for the most vulnerable members of society. These facilities are designed to accommodate childcare, elderly care, and support for individuals with disabilities, providing families with essential resources while enabling caregivers to focus on other important activities like education and health care.
Minister Tabuya expresses her eagerness to bring the ideas and insights gained from this conference back to Fiji, where such initiatives could significantly enhance the support systems available for caregivers and improve mental health outcomes.
There is great hope that these discussions and potential implementations will lead to meaningful changes and improved care for children and families in Fiji, reinforcing a community committed to nurturing and protecting its most vulnerable members.
Summary: Fiji is represented at the first Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children in Bogotá by Minister Lynda Tabuya. The conference will explore initiatives like care blogs to support vulnerable communities, promoting better mental health for caregivers and children. Tabuya aims to bring transformative ideas back home to improve Fiji’s support systems.
